Guns aren't cool, fools!
The NRA loon, gun nut buffoon blamed the violent video games (which I'm sure none of his 4 million members played), Hollywood movies, absence of armed policemen in schools, pure evil, Glee, the media, mental illness and even Hurricane Sandy.
A few years back this same yahoo called federal agents "jackbooted government thugs." Apparently now he wants these same "thugs" to guard every school in America. I thought the whole point of owning guns was to protect yourself from the evil big bad government.
I agree with him about keeping a national database of mentally ill people, just as long as Wayne LaPierre is the first one on that list, followed by the names of all those who own semiautomatic assault weapons.

Lack of Common Sense = NRA
![]() |
"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," NRA's Executive VP Wayne LaPierre said. So according to his own words, Adam Lanza became a good guy the moment he shot himself. And all of a sudden now the "government" workers AKA the cops just became the "good" guys overnight?

Violence Against School Children
http://www.enigmaterial.com/dateline/vn_1974/AR19740415.html
The above link is an article about a mortar shell bombing at my elementary school in Viet Nam. The date was March 9, 1974. I was 8 years old and in the third grade at the time. Thirty two students were killed, 50 others were wounded and 1 teacher died. Strangely I did not know any of the victims and I can barely remember the event. There were lots of media coverages in the weeks to follow, now that I did recall.
The Newtown, Connecticut school shooting yesterday brought back memories from almost 40 years ago for me. The shock, disbelief, outrage, sadness, anger, and confusion are still there. Read the last sentence of the article. Nothing has changed much in five decades.
I have some observations and thoughts about all this. First, guns and ammunition are too easily and cheaply available in America. Second, young people nowadays have a hard time dealing with anger management issues. Third, self-control, and personal responsibility are concepts most kids and parents do not teach or learn. The combination of these things in addition to the glamorization/ glorification of the violence by weapons in the entertainment industry (music, video games, movies and TV) were the reason for a tragedy like Sandy Hook Elementary School.

What kind of a runner are you?
Are you a rain or shine kind of runner?
Yes, I've run in all kinds of weather conditions. The lowest temperature was -18F wind chill in Vermont and highest was 103 in Georgia this summer.

Moral of the story
Guns are not toys. Assault weapons are made for one purpose: to kill. As quickly as possible. Rapid fire semi-automatic high-powered killing machines. Stop glorifying and glamorizing them. If you love your guns, then you love death. End of story.
"GUNS" from Negativland. This song is timeless even after 20+ years. I used to play this on KCR-Radio, San Diego State University radio station when I was a DJ there in 1989-90.
What is wrong with America and its love affair with guns, death and destruction?
There is one thing I agree with Willard Mitt Romney: in 1994 he said,"I don't line up with the NRA." A decade later, as governor of Massachusetts, he signed legislation making a state assault weapons ban permanent. If it was up to me, I would ban all assault weapons and charge each bullet at least $100. There is actually no mentioning of "the right to bear" bullets in the Second Amendment. Have you ever heard someone say: Nuclear bombs don't kill people, people kill people? Let's not ban nuclear weapons. We all should have the right to own nukes, right? Nope, me neither.
The Democrats and Republicans are a bunch of spineless and gutless weasels for letting the ban on assault weapons lapsed in 2004. Obama, you've got blood on your hands my brother.
Why do you need guns anyways? You mean guns trump your trust in a G*d?
Shouldn't you have more faith in a higher power to protect you?

Pixies-America's Greatest Band
...according to me. And Bono. For once we agree. (Whatever, I can't stand U2.)
I saw the Pixies live in 1989 at a tiny space around the UC San Diego campus. The Surfer Rosa Tour. I've been a hardcore fan of them since my days of doing radio at KZSC-FM in UC Santa Cruz. It's hard to believe that it was 25 years ago. My 30th high school reunion is coming up in a couple of years!
Some of their music was used in my sound designs for my theater projects and many theatrical productions I did in the 1990's. "Where is my mind?" was the song I used for the post-show of one of the plays I did for my senior thesis at UCSC. Ten years later, in 1999, it was made popular from the film Fight Club, written by Chuck Palahniuk & directed by David Fincher.
PIXIES are back on a World tour this year. Their songwriting & music has always been uniquely imaginative, passionate, abstract, raw and unusually funny. That sense of humor appeals to me. What's really amazing is how they look effortless when they're playing on stage, without the flailing or those out-of-control rock & roll nonsense antics. After seeing this documentary and watching the comments in it, I have more respect and appreciation for David Bowie, PJ Harvey, and Radiohead. Especially David Bowie.
"Updated 50's music made by psychopaths.." I kinda like that quote.
This is a great Documentary from 2002. It's about 50 minutes long.

The Run Streak
It's June 2012 and the streak continues. Today is Day 539.
Why do I run and why streaking? Is it good for your body to not have any rest days?
This running streak thing just started on December 11, 2010 at West Stride Running store in West Buckhead. I really didn't plan it. Back then I've been running for only about 18 months, two to four times a week. For about 10 years before that, sporadically I used to go to the gym, mostly on the weekends. I was basically a "weekend warrior", unfocused, unmotivated and lazy. Running was just an afterthought for me at the time even though I played soccer, basketball, and inline skate during Skate Nights. I ate a lot of junk food and got to almost 160 pounds which was the heaviest that I ever weighted.
In the summer of 2009, after turning 44, I joined the Atlanta Track Club to train for this Peachtree Road Race-the world's largest 10K race with 60,000 participants. The in-training group forced me to run every Saturday morning for 11 weeks before the race itself. We would have a training plan and supposed to run during the week too. I ran in some of the 5K Grand Prix races. I think I caught the "running bug" that fateful July three years ago. This year's race will be my 5th PRR overall and 4th in a row. I'm looking forward to running it with my wife who will be joining me for the first time ever. We've been together for almost 20 years (man, how time flies!!!) and I finally got her to go run it with me this year. The reason why she has never done it before, in her words: "I'm not a runner, running hurts my knees." She joined the Atlanta Track Club and has done 7 races so far this year. Hey, if we're addicted to anything, running is not that bad of a vice.
These days running just become automatic for me. I chose to run because I like it. I like how it makes me feel afterwards, that endorphin euphoria runner's high. I like the dedication it takes, I like the satisfaction and freedom it gives me. Yeah, it's that good 'ol American freedom-I do whatever whenever however I want. I run because it's my meditation, my zen time. I wake up every day thinking about my next run. I got a Garmin GPS watch and synced it with DailyMile, an online website to keep me accountable. I don't get overly obsessive about pace or distance or training plan any more. I try not to run in the same place two consecutive days. Really the trick to it all is knowing when to slow down and when to stop. Most of my runs are around 3,4 miles long. Some days if I feel like it I would run for an hour or 6 to 7 miles. My longest run ever was 10 miles a few months back. I have no desire to do a Marathon or even half of one. I love running but long-distance self-torture just ain't my thing. I don't think I'm one of those people who love to brag about how far, how long or how fast they can run.
My favorites running routes are the Silver Comet trail, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, Tolleson Park, Atlanta Road, Alpharetta Greenway, Heritage Park, Oakdale Park, Piedmont Park and Swift-Cantrell Park in Kennesaw. Most days I don't even know where I'll be running. But you can bet that I will go out for that minimum 1 mile/10-minute pace, anything after that is just the icing on the cake.
